Amsterdam Marijuana Laws
- Possessing intoxicants is punishable, but with a maximum of 5 grams of weed or hash, the police will take the drug. You can leave them and you will not be prosecuted.
- If you have soft drugs in excess of the amount for personal use (5 grams) you will be fined and run the risk of a prison sentence.
- Minors are not allowed to take any drugs, the tolerance policy does not apply to them, so you must be 18 years of age or older to purchase drugs.
- It is illegal to grow weeds at home, however 5 plants or less you can leave them and generally you will not be prosecuted.
- Hard drugs are not allowed.
- Import and export of drugs is illegal.
- You cannot smoke in public. You can smoke weed only in coffeeshops in Amsterdam.
Rules at Coffeeshops in Amsterdam
- You must be 18 years of age or older (21 years in some establishments) and always have your passport or ID with you.
- You are allowed to come to the same coffee shop a maximum of two times a day.
- You can buy a maximum of 5 grams per day.
- Alcohol and cigarettes are prohibited.
- You shouldn't make any fuss.
- The use of harsh drugs is strictly prohibited.
